UMP in Conversation with Sir Andy Street, former Mayor of the West Midlands

24 March 2025

Last week, UMP Chair Julian Scriven had the pleasure of sitting down with Sir Andy Street, former Mayor of the West Midlands, for a wide-ranging conversation on leadership, devolution and delivery.

Their discussion explored how public and private partners can work together to improve local transport, with practical examples from buses and rail, and a focus on what helps passengers most: frequency, simple and integrated fares, and easy tap in and tap out.

They also reflected on clean air policy, how to build coalitions around change, and why empowered regions with clear accountability can unlock long-term investment.

Watch the full conversation in the video and hear Sir Andy’s perspective in his own words.

Our thanks to Sir Andy for his time and insight.
