UMP brings Midlands partners together in Birmingham roundtable

16 July 2025

Earlier this week, the Urban Mobility Partnership was delighted to continue its series of local policy roundtables with an excellent session in Birmingham, kindly hosted by UMP member Shoosmiths.

We brought together local authorities, transport leaders, and mobility innovators to discuss how to accelerate the delivery of more integrated and sustainable transport across the Midlands.

With the Devolution Bill recently tabled in Parliament and new national strategies on the horizon, the conversation focused on how regions like the West Midlands can take greater control of local transport decisions. Attendees explored how to reshape the system around accessibility, customer experience, and long-term sustainability.

There was a strong appetite for practical, visible improvements, asking what simple, low-cost actions could make integrated transport feel real for people on the ground.

From expanding shared mobility options to removing everyday barriers to multimodal travel, participants highlighted the importance of building public confidence through quick wins.

We are very grateful to all who took part and we look forward to continuing these conversations and supporting collaborative approaches to mobility across the UK.
