UMP convenes Inner London councils for roundtable

5 March 2026

The Urban Mobility Partnership recently brought together members, transport industry experts and local authority representatives for a roundtable discussion on the future of Inner London’s streets.

Attendees included representatives from Mott MacDonald, Dott, National Parking Platform, Brompton Bicycle, Shoosmiths, Islington Council, Newham Council, Lewisham Council, Hackney Council, the City of London Corporation, Camden Council and Westminster City Council.

At the heart of the discussion was a question that sits at the core of UMP’s work: how do we balance competing demands on limited street space while supporting growth, sustainability and liveability?

The roundtable examined whether Inner London has reached a point of peak street capacity, exploring the growing pressure on kerb space, the tension between cycle lane provision and bus priority, and whether more assertive management of existing road space, rather than new infrastructure, is now the most realistic path to improving network performance.

The group also turned its attention to micromobility, debating the long-term role of e-bikes and e-scooters in the capital, and the governance challenges that come with managing docked and dockless models in high-density urban environments.

UMP would like to thank all those who attended and contributed to what was a rich and timely conversation. We look forward to sharing further updates as this work progresses.
