Stagecoach, Britain’s largest bus operator and co-founder of the Urban Mobility Partnership, has been featured in Plymouth Live due to its call for a stimulus package to incentivise passengers to return to buses.
Its proposed a 6-point plan urges the government to provide incentives like marketing campaigns, tax credits, discounted fares, and mobility credits to boost bus ridership, which has lagged behind pre-pandemic levels.
Stagecoach is calling for these measures to be included in the government’s upcoming Spending Review to help kickstart economic recovery, reduce car use and emissions, improve accessibility, and support the transition to electric buses.
The company argues that the government needs to reform motor vehicle taxes to encourage sustainable transportation and address declining revenues as electric vehicle adoption increases.
